  • It introduces the concepts and perspectives of community that seek to explain the importance of studying community dynamics and community action in relation to applied social sciences and the students’ future career options.
  • The book of f ers a distilled critical view from various community development perspectives and highlights its significance to national development to improve the quality of life of the Filipinos especially the poor. It promotes a people-centered approach with core values that put premium on human dignity, social justice, and people’s participation and empowerment. It also enumerates the different models of social change.
  • It elucidates the value of undertaking community action modalities. It acknowledges the interrelationship of self and community in undertaking community action. Equally important is the need to recognize the importance of solidarity in sociopolitical processes in promoting national and global community development. Assessment of selected community-action initiatives will also be discussed to promote good/best practices.
